Baltimore's Railroads: History & Heritage Bus Trip
Go on the road with the Washington County Historical Society as we explore the history and heritage of Baltimore's railroads during our Family History Month celebration! Travel with us by coach bus to Baltimore's historic Irish neighborhood for a visit to the Irish Railroad Workers' Museum and the B&O Railroad Museum. The morning will begin with a tour of the museum's historic row houses, which will give you an idea of the daily lives and living conditions of immigrant railroad workers. Then we'll receive an exclusive presentation from the museum about life as an Irish immigrant in 1800s Baltimore, followed by a guided neighborhood tour featuring historic Hollins market and St. Peter the Apostle Church and Cemetery. Then we'll take a short walk back down the street to the B&O Railroad Museum, where lunch will be provided, before we take a special guided tour. The tour will follow the (literally) bumpy history of passenger cars. The day will conclude with some free time at the B&O Museum, then we'll hop on the coach and head home.
