"The Boys of Dunbar" Book Talk and Signing
Hear the inspiring true story of a high school that overcame desperate circumstances in 1980s Baltimore to launch four NBA players that gave hope to a neighborhood and a city. Author Alejandro Danois introduces us to The Boys of Dunbar, about Dunbar High School’s basketball program. In the early 1980s, it produced the best team not only in Baltimore, but in the entire country, and arguably of all time. Four starting players—Muggsy Bogues, Reggie Williams, David Wingate, and Reggie Lewis—would eventually play in the NBA. Danois takes us into the lives of the young players, and Coach Bob Wade, a former NFL player from the same neighborhood, who knew that the basketball court held a key to the future. A book signing follows. In conjunction with the current exhibition Sons: Seeking the Modern African American Male. This program is free with the purchase of museum admission or museum membership.
